Band of The Week – Danny Severance and The Na Capella’s

Danny Severance and The Na Capella’s, a New York funk-soul band containing members from all across the nation, is Jukeboxy’s newest band of the week.

Danny Severance (vocals/violin) hails from the Western suburbs of Chicago. After fronting two bands while and after attending Bradley University in Central Illinois, Severance moved to NYC in the summer of 2012 with hopes of finding something bigger. There he found Upper West Side native Paul Nassar (percussion), Queen’s native Dylan Maida (keyboards/piano), upstate New Yorkers Dan Keegan (drums) and Arden Yonkers (bass), Ralph Serrano from Puerto Rico (congas), and Aaron Giannini from Los Angeles (guitar/vocals).

Their sound resembles a blend of alternative folk and classic soul-funk. The band’s influences span from such classic acts as The Beatles, and Sam Cooke, to more current performers, such as Tallest Man On Earth.

After forming their unique sound, the band started booking gigs wherever they could, also using their connections with local creative collectives. In early 2014 the crew became the resident house band for Street Poet’s NYC, and went on three different whirl wind tours, playing in Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago, Peoria (IL), SXSW, and Los Angeles.

The band recently played BK Wildlife Summer Festival at Radio Bushwick and claim it was their favorite show yet.

Their next gig is October 9th at Parkside Lounge on 31st East Houston St. NY, NY. Doors open at 7, and you can get your tickets here:
